Historical Genesis & National Charter

An Institute Born of Regional Aspiration & National Commitment

Central Institute of Technology (CIT), Kokrajhar is situated in the Kokrajhar district of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) in Assam. Established as a Centrally Funded Technical Institute (CFTI) under the Ministry of Education (formerly MHRD), Government of India, the institute represents the tangible fulfillment of the socio-cultural and educational aspirations of the Bodo people.

The genesis of CIT Kokrajhar lies in the historic Memorandum of Settlement on Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) signed on February 10, 2003, in New Delhi between the Government of India, the Government of Assam, and the Bodo leadership. CIT was conceived to create a transformative educational bridge—equipping local youth with high-caliber technological competencies, fostering rural entrepreneurship, and cultivating skilled human capital for regional economic resurgence.

Formally established on December 6, 2006, the institute was subsequently conferred the status of Deemed to be University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956. CIT functions autonomously under the governance of its statutory Board of Governors (BoG) and Academic Senate, adhering to highest national standards of technical pedagogy and scientific discovery.

"CIT Kokrajhar is mandated to impart modular technical and vocational education—spanning Information Technology, Electronics, Food Processing, Mechanical, Civil Engineering, and Allied Applied Sciences—serving as a premier gateway linking regional potential with global industrial self-reliance."
