About the Department

The department of Humanities and Social Sciences at CIT Kokrajhar is a center for skill development, research and teaching composed of disciplines such as - English, Economics, Linguistics and Sociology. With each varied range of research interests and expertise, the department promotes inter-disiplinary work in Humanities and Social Sciences from diverse academic and cultural backgrounds. The faculty of English trains engineering and design students of Diploma course, B. Tech and B. Des courses with an aim of improving their English communication skills (both written and spoken) along with other professional skills with the help of language lab and other advanched tools. The faculty of Sociology guides students the professional ethics which are much required in professional domains. The study of economics and management aims at improving students the managerial skills and making them to work towards the goal of technical application with greater productivity and lesser cost. The studies of economics also provide students with extensive technical knowledge of management and the ability to co-ordinate programme, plan, supervise and control a wide range of industries from an administrative point of view. Since the organizational activities includes planning, budgeting, managing etc. Therefore, to effectively and efficiently handle these activities of an organization, CIT has introduced economics as one of the subjects in the Diploma and Degree programmes. The department is also actively involved in language development and linguistic researches in various capacities. So, workshops, seminars, conferences are organised time to time in collaboration with local institutions and international scholars on language, literature and culture.
